How to Use the Weight Loss Visualizer
Our weight loss visualizer is designed to make weight management goals more tangible. Most people know they want to "lose weight" but struggle to connect that abstract goal to a specific number on the scale. By combining a BMI calculator, a 3D body viewer, and a weight comparison chart, we make that connection visual and immediate.
Start by entering your current height and weight. Your BMI is calculated instantly, the 3D body model reflects your current shape, and the weight comparison chart shows you a range of nearby weights and their corresponding BMI values. Scroll the weight slider down to your goal weight and see all three update in real time.
How Weight Loss Affects BMI
BMI changes in a straightforward, linear way with weight (since your height stays constant). For every kilogram you lose, your BMI decreases by: 1 ÷ height² (m). At 170 cm, this means every 1 kg of weight lost reduces BMI by approximately 0.35 points. At 160 cm, each kg reduces BMI by approximately 0.39 points.
This means that moving between BMI categories requires different amounts of weight loss depending on your height. The shorter you are, the fewer kilograms are needed to shift your BMI by one point. Our weight comparison chart makes this clear by showing exactly how much weight loss is required to move into the healthy range.
What Is a Safe Rate of Weight Loss?
According to NHS guidelines, a safe and sustainable rate of weight loss is 0.5–1 kg per week (1–2 lbs per week). This typically requires a daily calorie deficit of 500–1,000 kcal through a combination of diet and exercise. Faster weight loss is generally not recommended as it often involves muscle loss and can lead to nutritional deficiencies.
At a rate of 0.5 kg per week, losing 10 kg takes approximately 20 weeks (about 5 months). At 1 kg per week, the same goal takes 10 weeks. Use our visualizer to identify your healthy weight target, then plan a realistic timeline based on these guidelines.
Setting a Realistic Weight Loss Goal
A good weight loss goal is one that puts you within the healthy BMI range (18.5–24.9) or that meaningfully reduces your health risk if a fully healthy BMI is not immediately achievable. Even a 5–10% reduction in body weight has been shown to produce significant health benefits, including improved blood pressure, reduced cholesterol, and better blood sugar control.
Use the healthy weight range displayed in our calculator as your primary target. The range is shown in real time as you adjust your height — and the weight comparison chart makes it easy to see exactly how much weight loss stands between you and a healthy BMI.
